The Frisco ISD hockey team is the only team in Frisco that features players from all over the district.

Last year, this team was 15-5 and even competed at nationals.

“We finished seventh in the country last year,” hockey coach Ryan McLean said.

With the success they had last year, they have been able to build a team that is even better.

“I think the boys are six and one now,” McLean said.

Players say they put a lot of time into hockey to get better.

“I practice six days a week and have games two days a week. It just depends,” junior Brenden Sinclair said.

“It’s more like a select style of play. Usually teams … have one practice a week. You don’t have to show up just come to the games. But here it’s like if you don’t show up you’re not playing. It’s more of a structured set of hockey. Everyone’s good versus half the team sucking,” junior DJ Girardi said.

The coach thinks their team has a better mindset than most teams.

“There’s just a lot of good hockey players to choose from in Frisco.  So, the skillset that we have versus other programs is awesome,” McLean said.

Coaches and players hope to make it to nationals again.

“We have a team again this year that will definitely compete in state and hopefully go to nationals,” McLean said.

Players say that they want to see more supporters at the games to help celebrate their wins.

“I hope we do get a little more support. I mean we would love to see people at the games and hopefully do what we can,” McLean said.
